Optional Practical Training (OPT)
OPT is a type of post-graduation employment authorization that a F-1 student can apply for to USCIS. Students must apply during their graduation (final) quarter.
How do I find a job?
Students should utilize the resources and services that UW Bothell's Career Center provides, such as creating your resume, how to job hunt online, how to prepare for your interview, and what types of jobs fit your field of study. There are also many great workshops and events that you can attend. Remember, your job while on OPT must be related to your UWB degree and at least part-time (20 hours/week).

Students are working in various fields with companies either locally, or across the U.S.! Also, you definetly need to join CIE's special LinkedIn Group to connect with other international student alum who are working, and to help with your job search!

Workshop: Job Search Strategies for International Students
Looking for work presents special challenges for international students. This workshop held by UW Bothell Career Center will cover best practices and strategies for seeking and applying for jobs. Students to read the workshop information online as well.

OPT Employment Update Online Form
Students on OPT are only allowed 90 days total of unemployment. It is critical that you report to the Center for International Education office where you are working, and any time there is a change in your employment or contact information (such as home address, phone number or email). By completing this online form, CIE office will update your record with immigration so that they know you are working. Immigration will terminate a student's I-20 once 90 days of unemployment is accumulated.
STEM OPT Updated & Validity Report
Students on STEM OPT Extension must use this online form to report any changes to their employment or mailing address. The form will also be used to complete the required validity reports.
