OPT

Optional Practical Training (OPT)

OPT is a type of post-graduation employment authorization that a F-1 student can apply for to USCIS. Students must apply during their graduation (final) quarter.

  • OPT Employment Update Form
    Students who are currently on OPT must use this online form to update CIE and immigration where they are working and living.

  • 24-Month STEM OPT Extension Application Packet and FAQs 
    The new 24-months of STEM OPT extension application will be available starting May 10, 2016. Students are encouraged to visit the Study in the States STEM Hub and the 24-Month STEM OPT Extension application packet provided above. 

  • STEM OPT Updated & Validity Report - Coming Soon!
    Students must use this online form to report any changes to their employment or mailing address. The form will also be used to complete the required validity reports.

Workshop: Job Search Strategies for International Students

Looking for work presents special challenges for international students. This workshop will cover best practices and strategies for seeking and applying for jobs. Information on OPT and CPT will also be presented. Students to read the workshop information online as well.

How do I find a job? 

Students should utilize the resources and services that UW Bothell's Career Center provides, such as creating your resume, how to job hunt online, how to prepare for your interview, and what types of jobs fit your field of study. There are also many great workshops and events that you can attend. Remember, your job while on OPT must be related to your UWB degree and at least part-time (20 hours/week).
