Nursing Comes to Everett

Due to the overwhelming success of its Mount Vernon offering, UW Bothell will also offer its award-winning Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in Everett, "through a partnership with Everett Community College's University Center, starting in Fall 2010. Bringing UW Bothell's outstanding nursing program to Everett gives students the opportunity to earn an associate’s degree at Everett Community College or other area schools and stay close to home to complete a bachelor's degree," EvCC president David Beyer said. “This partnership helps meet the need for more four-year degrees in our area and benefits our entire community by offering advanced education and training to the nurses who serve our community." The program will initially enroll 25 full-time students with plans to grow to 50 full-time students. Learn more at www.uwb.edu/nursing.

New Buildings on the Horizon

During the 2009-10 academic year, the institution received legislative funds for a pre-design of its planned third building. The architect firm Thomas Hacker and Associates was selected to lead the process and the results have been well-received by the campus community. The next building, pending construction funding, is proposed to house the campus’ growing Science and Technology Program and will feature classrooms and lab space. Enrollment Demand Grows

Once a "best kept secret", now high in demand…the word is out about UW Bothell’s great offerings, and our campus continues to receive record numbers of applications. In fact, as of July 1, we have 1,733 applications for 340 freshman spots for Fall 2010. This is a 5:1 applicant-to-admit ratio that rivals the finest institutions in the country and is a great compliment to the university since we just started admitting freshmen four short years ago.

Commencement 2010: Go Dawgs!

Congratulations to our newly graduated students! Continuing with our year of celebration, this year’s Commencement season was full of fun events.

Up first was the First Freshman Dinner, held in early June to honor UW Bothell's first freshman class. At the event, students and faculty shared their reflections of the last four years. Said Chancellor Chan in his remarks, "this remarkable group came to campus in 2006 as pioneers and, in just four short years, have dramatically changed our campus and our way of life."

At the event students were presented with unique stoles to wear at the Commencement ceremony to celebrate the milestone.

The big day, the 19th Commencement Ceremony, was held on June 13 at the Hec Edmundson Pavilion, Bank of America Arena, UW Seattle. During the ceremony, 900 bachelor’s and master’s degrees were awarded, and 53 students were recognized for receiving their Washington State teaching certificates. Additionally, several students were honored for exemplary performance, including Xheni Diko – Student Commencement Speaker and Chancellor’s Medalist, Donna Oved – President’s Medalist, and Jose Rodriguez – Chancellor’s Medalist.
