I believe that the best education occurs when students are actively involved in the processes of learning.  Thus I endeavor to make my courses ones in which students can become actively responsible for their pursuit of knowledge and understanding.  I see the engagements in the classroom as opportunities for both students and faculty to reflect upon the ways in which societies are interrelated and interdependent.  For this reason I tailor assignments and readings to provide students with creative resources that would permit them to consider their positions within the multiple communities to which they belong. One of the key skills students should derive from education is the ability to express their ideas clearly and thus I stress excellence in written and oral communication.

My research focuses on the intersections of media, popular music, and power. I am especially interested in the roles that Caribbean media play in facilitating and/or impeding community formation. I have an abiding interest in the questions of justice and representation and in media and popular culture as sites at which the pursuit of justice is contested, constrained, and shaped.
