The “Introduction to GIS” course will be balanced between that students achieve an understanding theories behind GIS and that they acquire skills to carry out basic GIS analyses using a common ESRI ArcGIS software package. GIS labs will be accompanied, and lab assignments will be designed to enhance students’ understanding of the lectures and provide real-world experiences.

BIS 342 Introduction to Geographic Information Systems
My research interests are conducting GIS analysis and developing geovisualization dealing with some issues caused in our urban built-environment. I have collaborated with students and faculty members on projects as diverse as university campus design, neighborhood-level participatory GIS, crime analysis, GIS mapping for historical events, and most recently GIS mapping and analysis of spatial diffusion of disease from the primates to the humans.
