Career Possibilities

Research conducted by the Association of American Colleges and Universities shows that employers from large corporations to small government agencies seek people who can think critically and creatively, communicate clearly in a variety of media, work effectively with others, and adapt rapidly.  IAS’s interdisciplinary curriculum allows students to develop these skills through a combination of academic and experiential learning opportunities, including academic internships, community-based learning, independent research, and study abroad.  The capstone portfolio completed by all IAS students links their academic accomplishments to their career and life ambitions.

IAS graduates go on to careers in a wide variety of fields, including public administration, for-profit and non-profit management, teaching, publishing and journalism, public relations, public policy, community development, library sciences, consulting, environmental planning and advocacy, and health and human services.  Many graduates pursue advanced study in areas such as law, counseling, social work, media studies, library science, policy studies, cultural studies, and creative writing, to name just a few.

For more information about career and graduate school pathways related to individual degrees, check the webpage for that degree. We also encourage you to discuss your ambitions with IAS faculty members.
