Commerce and CommunityDecember 17, 2014 - IAS faculty member Colin Danby published an article, “How is Community Made?”, in Commerce and Community: Ecologies of Social Cooperation.  The volume challenges "the venerable social–theoretical division of cooperative activity into separate spheres of impersonal Gesellschaft (commerce) and ethically thick Gemeinschaft (community).”  Danby's paper – "How is Community Made?" – sorts out interpretive from structural accounts of community, extending a literature that builds on the work of libertarian thinker Richard Cornuelle.
