December 11, 2014 - IAS Director of Graduate Programs Miriam Bartha and Dean Bruce Burgett published “Why Public Scholarship Matters for Graduate Education” in Pedagogy: Critical Approaches to Teaching Literature, Language, Composition, and Culture, part of a special issue dedicated to graduate education. The article draws on experience with the portfolio-based Master of Arts in Cultural Studies and the Certificate in Public Scholarship to argue for a reorientation of graduate curricula and pedagogy.  They advocate an approach to public scholarship that cuts against  disciplinary-professional common sense by promoting diversified forms of professionalization and pragmatic commitments to institutional change.
