November 12, 2014 - IAS faculty member Dan Berger published a new book, Captive Nation: Black Prison Organizing in the Civil Rights Era, with the University of North Carolina Press.  In one review of the book, Khalil Muhammad said "No histories of post-civil rights America can ignore this indispensable book."  A second review by Robin Kelley called the book “an urgent account of a dynamic and complex black radical movement whose profound impact could not be contained behind bars.” Berger gave a reading from the book at the Howard Zinn Book Fair in San Francisco on Nov 15.
