September 15, 2014 - IAS faculty members Kari Lerum and Alice Pederson will speak at the annual Race and Pedagogy conference held at the University of Puget Sound (UPS) on September 25-27.  This year’s topic is “What NOW is the Work of Education and Justice?: Mapping a New Critical Conscience.”  Lerum will speak on a panel entitled: "Presumed Incompetent and Beyond: Surviving Post Tenure Currencies and Liabilities." Pederson will run a workshop on “(Un)writing Race: Using 'Race' as a Category for Deconstruction and Radical Play in the Composition Classroom.” They will be joined at the conference by keynote speakers Angela Davis, Winona LaDuke, Henry Louis Gates, Jr., and Eduardo Bonilla-Silva.
