Kevin Kim receives research grant and discusses Orientalism

IAS faculty member Kevin Y. Kim has received a 2017 grant from the State Historical Society of Iowa. This nationally competitive grant is awarded annually to promising research projects which pursue innovative approaches to historical topics which draw on Iowa-related archives. In pursuance of this grant, Kim will visit several research sites in Iowa in fall 2017, and produce a scholarly article for the Annals of Iowa, a well-known journal published by the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, in fall 2018.

Kevin Y. Kim receives a 2016-2017 grant from the Hoover Presidential Foundation

IAS research associate Kevin Y. Kim received a 2016-2017 grant from the Hoover Presidential Foundation, making him a member of the 2016 Class of Hoover Scholars. This grant supports Kim’s research at the Hoover Presidential Library for his book-length project, Worlds Unseen: Henry Wallace, Herbert Hoover, and the Making of Cold War America. A finalist for the Allan Nevins dissertation prize from the Society of American Historians and recipient of grants from the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations and American Historical Association, Worlds Unseen explores former U.S. President Herbert Hoover and vice-president Henry Wallace’s conservative and liberal leadership of the United States’ most influential dissident movements against the global Cold War.
