Center on Community Partnerships - Bruce Burgett and Becky Reed Rosenburg

Bruce and Becky met with the EC to review the proposal summary for the Center for Civic Engagement and Community Partnerships. The proposal included the summary of interviews conducted to gain feedback and input from across campus on the Center. The questions addressed by the summary were:

  1. What is currently happening in your program/department in terms of community engagement and/or partnerships?
  2. How is this work supported?
  3. What could/should a Center do to better support Community Partnerships at UWB?
  4. Whom else should we talk with in your program?

The proposal intersects with other initiatives and projects on campus, including the Academic Strategic Action Initiatives (5-for-5) recommendation to create an administrative support system for experiential learning and action research. The Center is an initial step toward moving in the direction of that 5-for-5 theme.

EC discussion points:

The role of the EC to advise on matters involving resource allocation and budget involves assuming responsibility to review and make recommendations where significant budget implications are proposed. A statement from the EC on whether this proposal is in alignment with the 5-for-5 initiatives will be drafted.

Update of Tri-Campus Program Review Procedures

Kevin updated the EC on the Tri-campus curriculum review of three proposals:

  1. Proposal for a Minor in Applied Computing (UWT)
  2. Proposal for a BA in Computing and Software Systems (UWT)
  3. Proposal for a Minor in Policy Studies (UWB)

The GFO Curriculum Committee, as the coordinating body for UWB will review undergraduate program changes and respond to the Secretary of the Faculty if no comment is needed, or refer the proposal to the EC for advisement if further consideration is recommended. The closing date for the proposals is April 11.

Strategic Planning/GFO Committees for 2005-2006

Kevin reviewed the GFO committee structure with the EC and discussed the possible re-organization of the committees to better serve faculty and shared governance. The role of the EC in strategic planning and budget building will be revisited and discussed. GFO committees could be re-structured for 2005 - 2006. An assessment of the committees will be made at the end of a year and decisions to revise the GFO by-laws could be made at that time.

Agenda items for April 11 EC meeting:

Discussion of EC role in strategic planning and budgeting and GFO committee structure.

Next EC meeting will be Monday, April 11, 2005.
