Discussion of Faculty Job Satisfaction Survey Report
Sandeep distributed the draft of the UW, Bothell Faculty Job Satisfaction Survey Results to the EC. He asked the group to focus on the format so that they report could be released to the community. The EC made several editorial recommendations. Moreover, the EC concluded that providing the raw data allows the reader of the survey to draw his/her own concludsions. The final version of this report is attached.
As background, this survey was commissioned by the Executive Council. The survey will be presented to the faculty, the Academic Council, Interim Vice Chancellor, Jane Decker and the Chancellor. The EC talked about the ultimate use of the survey and how sharing the data could relate to policy making and strategic planning. Jack Meszaros has presented the survey to the Tri Campus Council. The survey will go to Jane Decker for a response and this data can be compared to the information that Jane has previously gathered from her meetings with faculty and program directors. The survey can provide Jane with another layer of information on faculty job satisfaction. The survey could inform future discussions of faculty development.
Action item:
Sandeep will make the changes suggested by the EC and present to the UW, Bothell community.
Formation of Committee for Strategic Planning
A Committee for Strategic Planning will be formed representing each academic unit, with the charge to represent the faculty voice in creating a UWB strategic plan. The role of the committee will be decided before a charter is made. The EC sees the committee as a 'think tank' of senior faculty leadership that will gather feedback from the faculty and create a strategic plan for the academic side of the house. This will be incorporated into the global, strategic plan of the institution. This core committee will be structured of representatives from each program, the Library, the Teaching Learning Center and the Writing Center and will bring others in as the process evolves. The first meeting will identify the process. The strategic plan must align with the Vision and Mission of the campus. An action plan will lead to specific initiatives that will lend itself to decision and policy making.
Action item:
Sandeep and Carole will work with Chancellor Buck and Interim VC Jane Decker to move this process along.
Update on Search for Vice Chancellor
Warren is meeting with the Faculty Council for input to what the faculty wants to see in a Vice Chancellor. He will come to the EC meeting on May 19 to discuss this matter. Jane Decker, Interim Vice Chancellor will retain an administrative position in the Chancellor's Office as Associate Dean for Academic Planning after the new Vice Chancellor is chosen.
Plans for the GFO room
The General Faculty Organization now has an office, building UW2, room 318. An open house party will be held in the future.
