Approval of minutes for April 10, 2002

Kevin Laverty moved to accept the minutes of the April 10th Executive Council. Seconded by Linda Watts. Motion approved.

Elected positions (Faculty Council and GFO officers) and campus committees.

Dan Jacoby updated the EC on elections and nominations. A ballot will be sent out to elect faculty to the Faculty Council and the GFO. Paul Collins will be completing Kevin Laverty's term on the Senate as Kevin will be on sabbatical.

Undergraduate Distance Learning Degree in Computing and Software Systems

Kelvin Sung updated the EC on the CSS department's decision not to move forward on their proposed undergraduate Distance Learning degree. Bill Erdley presented information on the history of the Distance Learning proposal and expressed his disappointment with the decision not to move the proposal forward.

Master of Science Degree in Computing and Software Systems

Frank Cioch presented the CSS proposal for a Master of Science degree in Computing and Software Systems. The EC suggested more emphasis on leadership and ethics within the various courses proposed. Kelvin Sung will provide another, newer draft of the proposal to the EC prior to the next EC meeting. The EC hopes to be able to take a vote on the MS in CSS degree at the May 8th meeting

Proposed name change for IAS BA degree

A few years ago the Liberal Studies program changed its name but not its degree to Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences. IAS is now changing the degree name to a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies. Motion to change the IAS BA degree from Liberal Studies to Interdisciplinary Studies was made, seconded, and approved.

Report on brown bag meetings

Dan Jacoby reported that the brown bag meetings were successful in providing a forum for cross-programmatic dialogue.
