Committee Reports

Carole Kubota indicated that the Academic Affairs Committee did not think that the technical and distance learning questions were appropriate topics for this committee to be reviewing. It was suggested the Curriculum or Instructional Research and Support Committee might more appropriately review it. Jack Meszaros reported that the Faculty Senate is also working on these issues and would like us to send a representative to their committee meetings.

The Curriculum Committee has met and approved the proposals submitted to it.

Enrollment and Recruitment

Ray Lou summarized the plans to increase enrollment for Winter and Spring Quarter. He also discussed cross enrollment with community colleges. A consulting team will be visiting our campus to review the overall structure of the Student Affairs area. It was also mentioned that now is the time to begin planning for Fall Quarter recruitment.

Legislation

The UW Faculty Senate is working on a Class C Resolution to request the State Legislature to provide enabling legislation for a faculty union at the University. This resolution has been shared with Bothell faculty by e-mail. It will be voted on at a December Senate meeting.

The tri-campus resolution to alter the Faculty Code to provide greater representation for UWB and UW Tacoma faculty on the UW Senate will be voted on by all UW Bothell faculty. This will be discussed at tomorrow's GFO meeting.

New Program Process

Jack Meszaros distributed the proposed process for creating new programs. Susanne Sikma volunteered to work on this. Frank Cioch has offered to help also.

Miscellaneous

Carole Kubota mentioned some problems with the building-safety issues and problems with the acoustics in some of the rooms.

Jack Meszaros mentioned that Mary Huneke has put together a list of potential faculty social events. Executive council members were most interested in a spring picnic.
