Job Description

The School of Educational Studies at the University of Washington Bothell has an instructional opening for a Lecturer Part Time position for this Summer 2017.  This instructor would teach B EDUC 441, a course in our English Speaker of Other Languages (ESOL) curriculum. B EDUC 441 Second Language Acquisition, Bilingual Education, and the Structure of English is a 5 credit course and focuses on theories in second language acquisition, bilingual education, and the structure of English. Topics include research, practice, and connections between language, literacy, cultural tradition, identity, and education in preparation for teaching ELL's in general education of classes specifically for ELL's.

The class is located on the UW Bothell campus and runs from 6/26 - 7/5, 9 am - 12:20 pm and from 7/10 - 7/26, 1:30 pm- 4:30 pm.  Students will complete additional hours of community-based learning.  Service period and compensation dates 6/16/2017 through 8/15/2017, to allow for preparation and closure of course work and quarter end.                                                                                        

Qualified applicants will have:

  • An earned Ph.D. or M.Ed in Education or ESOL
  • Strong conceptual background in second language acquisition and bilingual education models and pedagogy
  • Previous experience of teaching undergraduate and graduate education
  • Experiences with K-12 English Language Learners
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check (if applicable)
