Dr. Van Galen's research focuses on questions of the purposes of education in United States society. She has most recently written about the ways that social class shapes schooling experiences. She is a regular contributor to academic journals and serves in a variety of capacities in professional organizations. Her most recent book, Caring in an Unjust World includes contributions from public school and university educators who are examining the importance of the relationships that form between teachers and students in fostering children's well-being.
