Summary
This page focuses on some known issues with the Blackboard system and provides information on how best to access Blackboard. If you have any questions about these tutorials or would like further assistance, please contact the UWB Computing Help Desk at helpdesk@uwb.edu.
Access Issues
- Blackboard will work best on Windows computers when viewed with Internet Explorer 7 or Mozilla Firefox 2.
- Blackboard should also work with Apple Safari on Macintosh computers, but users who experience any problems may always switch over to the Mozilla Firefox browser. Always remember to save documents with their proper extensions (.doc for Microsoft Word, .xls for Microsoft Excel, and etc), so that others will be able to open them.
- Blackboard will NOT work correctly under the AOL browser. If you have an AOL account, use the account to connect to the Internet, then either use the Internet Explorer or Firefox browser.
- For more information on browser compatibility, please refer to the Blackboard End-User Configuration Matrix.
- Be cautious about uploading large files. Students with dial-up Internet connectivity will have difficulty opening the files. Also, there is no progress bar and large files may take a long time to upload. Be sure to wait for Blackboard to confirm the success of the upload (see image below) before closing the browser or navigating to another page.
- Be cautious about uploading files created with uncommon applications, because students might not have software capable of opening them.
- Students who do not have access to personal computers or required software can go to the Computer Lab (UW1-102) or the Information Commons (Library).
- Students must have an enrollment password, if an instructor requires it.
