Backing up Bookmarks and Favorites
Sometimes you need to back up your browser bookmarks or favorites and other profile information, i.e., when you are getting a new computer, or when your computer's software is being refreshed, or any other time when you want all of your own information backed up. Bookmarks and favorites can be moved from Macintosh to Windows or vice versa.
Internet Explorer for Windows
To back up your favorites to your Mercury folder:
- In the File menu, select Import and Export...
- Click Next at the welcome page.
- Select Export Favorites, then click Next.
- With the Favorites folder highlighted, click Next.
- Click in the button next to Export to a file or address, then click on Browse.
- Navigate to your Mercury folder, then click Save.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish.
- Finally, click OK.
To import a saved IE favorites file:
- In the File menu, select Import and Export...
- Click Next at the welcome page.
- Select Import Favorites, then click Next.
- Click in the button next to Import from a file or address, then click on Browse.
- Browse to the place where you saved the bookmark file on Mercury, then click on the bookmark.html file.
- Click Next.
- Make sure the Favorites folder is highlighted, then click Next.
- Click Finish.
- Finally, click OK.
Internet Explorer for Macintosh
To back up your favorites to your Mercury folder:
- Launch Internet Explorer.
- In the Favorites menu, select Organize Favorites.
- In the File menu, Export...
- Click the arrow next to the Documents button. Click on Desktop.
- Double-click on your Mercury folder name, which should appear in the main box.
- Click Save.
To import a saved Internet Explorer favorites file:
- Launch Internet Explorer.
- In the Favorites menu, select Organize Favorites.
- In the File menu, select Import...
- Click the arrow next to the Documents button. Click on Desktop.
- Double-click on your Mercury folder name, which should appear in the main box.
- Double-click on the favorites.html file.
Mozilla for Windows and Macintosh
To back up your bookmark to your Mercury folder:
- Launch Mozilla
- Click Bookmarks on the menu bar, and then click Manage Bookmarks...
- When the "Bookmark Manager" window opens, click on Tools on the menu bar and then click Export.
- In the "Export Bookmark" window, navigate to your Mercury folder, then click Save.
- You can then choose the location to save the "exported" file, the exported file is bookmarks.html.
To import a saved Mozilla bookmark file:
- Launch Mozilla.
- Click Bookmarks on the menu bar, and then click Manage Bookmarks...
- When the Manager Window opens, click Tools on the menu bar and then click Import.
- In the "Import bookmark file" window, navigate to your Mercury folder and open it. (If you created a Mercury shortcut on your desktop, click on the desktop icon on the left hand side of the window. Then double-click on your folder.) Locate and double-click the bookmarks.html file. This will take you back to the Bookmarks window.
- Close the "Bookmarks" window. (Click the red X in the top right corner of the window, or click File then Exit.)
