Converting the Pine address book to Outlook

This procedure allows you to convert your Pine address book into Outlook contacts.

If you are already using Outlook contacts extensively, you may want to back up your existing contacts before you start the conversion. We have never seen any problems with this process, but creating a back-up is good practice in case something goes wrong. Your Pine address book will not be affected by this process.

Back-up your existing contacts

This part of the process is only necessary if you are already using Outlook contacts extensively. If you are not, then skip on to Run the "Convert Now" script.

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. From the File menu, select Import and Export...
  3. In the "Choose an action to perform" box, select Export to a file then click Next.
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the list and click on Tab Separated Values (DOS), then click Next.
  5. Click on Contacts in the folder list, then click Next.
  6. In the Export to a File window, click on Browse.
  7. Click on the Desktop button on the left, then type contacts-backup in the File name box. Click OK.
  8. Click Next in the Export to a file window.
  9. Make sure a check mark appears in the box next to Export Contacts from the "Contacts" folder, then click on Map Custom Fields...
  10. Click on Default Map near the bottom of the right-hand box. This will ensure that all possible information in your Contacts list will be saved.
  11. Click OK.
  12. Click Finish. The process could take a few minutes.

Run the "Convert Now" script

  1. Click on this link, Convert My Pine Address Book, which will take you to C&C's web page.
  2. Read the instructions listed on that page, then click the Convert Now link.
  3. Once this script is complete, Pine will send you an email with an attachment and directions.

Transfer the address book file "abook.csv" to your computer

After running the script, you will receive an email in your inbox, which states, "Your Address Book has been attached to this e-mail in the form of a file called "abook.csv". Please save this attachment to your computer's
desktop by following these steps:" For your convenience, the steps are listed below:
