Center for Information Assurance & Cybersecurity

Mission

CIAC creates training programs and research programs that advance the professionalization of cybersecurity.  Our approach through the theory of systems requires us to cross disciplines and sectors in order to address the real immediate needs of major industry, critical infrastructure, and governments.

To accomplish this, we

  • design and develop training programs for cybersecurity professionals;
  • recruit and support veterans and military reservists for transition into this field;
  • collaborate in research that improves the cybersecurity operations for our partners in private industry, critical infrastructure, and government; and
  • promote public awareness of cybersecurity issues and opportunities.

NSA Designation

The Center for Information Assurance and Cybersecurity has been a national Department of Homeland Security/National Security Agency Center for Academic Excellence in Information Assurance/Cyber Defense Education (CAE-CDE) since 2004, and expanded as a Center for Academic Excellence in Research (CAE-R).

As a CAE, the center encompasses all three campuses: Seattle, Bothell and Tacoma. The UW was the first university to have a CAE in Cybersecurity in Washington State.
