Our response to a controversial speaker

There are many in our community who are concerned about this Friday’s speech by Milo Yiannopoulos to be held on the Seattle campus. Although this is not the type of speaker many would invite to any UW campus, we need to fully respect a student group’s right to invite speakers of their choice, even those who are controversial or whose appearance may offend some. I am hopeful that these extreme and divisive opinions will eventually be drowned by the overwhelming majority who believe in the kind of generous and inclusive society reflected in our campus values.

A home for our diversity center

The UW Bothell Diversity Center now has a home. It will be located on the first floor of UW-1, in space currently occupied by the Student Success Center. We have identified additional space for the important work of the Student Success Center.  As you all know, a diversity center is one of the top priorities of our Diversity Action Plan. I want to thank the  Diversity Center Steering Committee for its dedicated work. This is a major milestone for our campus.

A pledge to underrepresented and undocumented students

You're invited to take part in a special event on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 1 p.m. in the ARC. Together with Cascadia College, we will pledge our commitment to the safety and security of our underrepresented and undocumented members of our shared campus community.
