Space Huskies is a University of Washington Bothell project now in its fourth year. It provides hands-on learning experiences for fifth and sixth graders based on a joint NASA and National Endowment for the Arts curriculum. UW Bothell students serve as team leaders for groups of elementary school students during scheduled weekend workshops or in weekly classroom sessions, creating imaginative elements of a Mars community, based on real science. The program teaches writing, researching, problem solving, communication, and teamwork. The culminating moment occurs each spring when projects are unveiled for family, friends, and a NASA astronaut at an annual science fair. Recent community partners include Woodinville Elementary and 826 Seattle. Directed by Becky Reed Rosenberg and Kam Yee, through the University of Washington Bothell Teaching and Learning Center.
