Summer Environmental Education Days

SEED 2006

Developed by Chuck Henry, Carole Kubota, Martha Groom, Jean Eisele, Warren Gold and Tansy Clay, the UW Bothell Summer Environmental Education Days (SEED) is a two-week institute where K-12 teachers gain scientific knowledge and teaching strategies to help them bring environmental concepts into their classrooms. A select number of UW Bothell Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences students work alongside participating teachers during the autumn of the following school year to create and implement lesson plans and projects which incorporate ideas developed during SEED. Students earn 5 credits based on an evaluation which includes: (a) a description of the project and lesson plans developed; (b) a review of scientific bases and selected supporting literature; (c) a critique of their initial implementation; and (d) suggestions for improvement. Student projects are also documented and archived via the creation of posters and websites.
