Heather is a 26 yr old disabled Veteran of the US Coast Guard, currently studying Environmental Science. She have chosen the US Coast Guard Auxiliary as her volunteer platform for many reasons. The not-for-profit organization participates as a community educator through the Boater’s Safety Program, provides free inspections to recreational boaters, and educates the community of the problems of pollution in the water through thier Sea Partner’s Program. With my prior experience in the USCG, She will be able to put forth her technical skills doing something she loves. Although there will be many hours of training and personal development involved, she is looking forward to every training and information session with the public and participating in public events.

Sindi Diko

Valley General Hospital and UW Bothell Student Life

Sindi was born in Albania in a small town called Bilisht. Her parents moved to America in 1996 and were able to bring Sindi and her sister two years later in September 1998 when she was 7. She grew up in Monroe, Washington where she graduated as one of the Valedictorians of Monroe High School. Currently she is pursuing an undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of Washington Bothell and aiming to get a doctorate in medicine. In the two years that she has been at UW Bothell, she has received an undergraduate merit scholarship twice, was awarded Student of the Month for Feb 2010, and was the recipient of the Sterling and Gene Munro Fellowship for outstanding civic engagement. She was a member of the Campus Events Board and is currently working in Admissions as a tour guide and as a Civic Fellow with the Office of Community-Based Learning and Research.
Ella Ivashkina

Qualitative Skills Center Tutor, NWC and VITA

Ella is a senior undergraduate student at University of Washington Bothell majoring in Business Administration with an Option in Accounting. This past fall Ella was working as a business tutor offering help in finance, accounting, and managerial economics courses at Quantities Skills Center. She is currently a finance intern at ChemPoint and the Vice President of Service Activities for Beta Alpha Psi at UWB. Ella volunteers at Northwest Center, provides free income tax assistance to low income families at VITA Yesler site, and coordinates restoration project at Juanita Bay Park. After graduating from in 2011, Ella plans on pursuing a Masters Degree in Professional Accounting (Concentration in Tax) and securing a job at a local public accounting firm that has strong ties to non-profit organizations.

Circle of Friends for Mental Health

Christina Monahan is a senior at UW Bothell, who will be graduating this spring. She is working towards a major in Community Psychology and a minor in Human Rights, while completing a term of Students in Service through AmeriCorps. With her strong passion for helping people, and interests in art therapy, Christina volunteers for a number of organizations that are working towards improving the quality of life of populations in need through art and interaction. She works with the nonprofit organization Circle of Friends for Mental Health teaching weekly art classes - one for developmentally disabled adults in a Community House in Seattle, and another to individuals recovering from substance abuse at the Recovery CafĂ©. Additionally, Christina interns with the Starlight Children’s Foundation, a nonprofit organization serving terminally ill children in hospitals through the coordination of activities, events, and outings. Christina’s volunteer work stands as an important example of just how much one person can do to serve their community in meaningful ways.

Andrew is currently entering his senior year at the University of Washington – Bothell. He is pursuing a major in accounting with a concentration in finance. During the fall quarter, Andrew worked as an accounting intern with Friends of Youth. Andrew is currently now a volunteer tax preparer for VITA and is also the VP of Professional Activities for Beta Alpha Psi. After graduating this year, he plans to pursue a Master's Degree in Accounting and hopes to find a job in public accounting. During his free time, Andrew enjoys doing anything related to sports and watching films.

Habitat for Humanity

Julia Hodges is a sophomore at UWB majoring in Community Psychology. She works at a Daycare with a lovely group of school-aged children. She looks for ways to help and better her community on a weekly basis. She loves helping others and creating environments where people can learn and grow. She enjoys traveling and learning about different cultures. In her free time she reads books ranging from vampires and magical societies to love stories of boy meets girl, and of stories filled with tragedy. She plays many sports and loves to be active. She looks forward to all the differences she will be making during her term with Students in Service.
