“Club Wranglers” (Social & Activities Program)

Context:

MISSION
To provide meaningful social, health, enrichment and recreation opportunities, for individuals with intellectual, cognitive & developmental disabilities, their family and caregivers.

OVERVIEW
Since 1998 the Northshore Wranglers Program has delivered year-round, weekly and ongoing programs and activities, including Special Olympics Sports. The Northshore Wranglers are part of the Northshore Health and Wellness Center in Bothell and compliment programming offered via the Adult Day Center. Both Centers are part of the Northshore Senior Center, a non-profit 501(c)3.

Work description:

VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES:

  • Provide support to program participants at activities and events.
  • Supervision, redirection and refocus to program participants as needed.
  • Assist program participants one-on-one as needed.
  • Support does not involve personal care (feeding, toileting, etc.)

 VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Maturity, patience and responsibility to work with persons with disabilities.
  • Ability and confidence to volunteer independently with indirect supervision.
  • Age 16 and older. (Younger ages permitted with parent.)
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.

PREREQUISITE INFORMATION:

  • Completion of Volunteer Application and Volunteer Background Check Form.
  • Meeting with an agency staff prior to start date (includes orientation).

Impact:

We Can't Do It Without You: Volunteers are an invaluable part of the Wranglers program. Quite simply, the Wranglers program could not be offered without the support of volunteers. A single staff supports all Northshore Wranglers programs, which vary in size from 10 participants to over 60 participants daily. And, Wranglers programs are ongoing, offered every week of the year. Clearly, the support role volunteers’ play is beyond measure.
