Huskies Make a Difference Day

Huskies Make a Difference Day 2011

This year’s national Make a Difference Day occurred on October 22nd. University of Washington Bothell students, faculty, and staff came together on November 19th for UW Bothell’s very own, first annual Huskies Make a Difference Day. Over 50 volunteers teamed up with the City of Bothell for three different day of service projects. The volunteer sites included a recycling and waste management information project at the Northshore Senior Center, where student volunteers distributed an assortment of recycle and compost resources to the local Bothell Community. They also volunteered in the kitchen, as they composted the unfinished food from the Senior Center’s pancake breakfast. Additional volunteers, accompanied by members from local Boy Scouts of America, pulled wild blackberry bushes from North Creek. Following the invasive removal project, volunteers planted native species to re-beautify the Creek. The Office of Community-Based Learning and Research, several student organizations and leaders, and several Civic Fellows worked together in coordinating this day of service and plan on continuing the relationships to offer more opportunities in the future.
