Alternative Spring Break is a student lead innitiative across the country where students dedicate thier spring break to serving a community. Some groups deside to travel to distant places while our UW Bothell students took a stance to "be the change in YOUR community".

Alternative Spring Break Projects 2011
Students participated in one or all three projects:
March 21-26, 2011
21-24: Camp Korey
25: Teen Feed
26: Vineyard Park
~Camp Korey: a camp in Carnation, WA, dedicated to working with children that have life threatening disorders. We will be getting the ranch ready for the campers including clearing trails, cleaning, and planting. Camp Korey runs solely on volunteers and does a great job of giving these children their childhood back so the hope in working with this organization is to introduce students to the Camp and then have them going back when they have campers. http://www.campkorey.org/Camp_Korey/CK_Home.html
~Teen Feed: an organization dedicated to providing a mentoring program and a daily meal for homeless youth in University District. We will be gathering about $150 worth of food, enough to feed 50-70 teens, cooking and serving the meal. The teens that make their way through Teen Feed's doors have had a very difficult life and, for many, their one meal of the day comes from volunteers of Teen Feed. There are many different volunteer opportunities that Teen Feed offers as well so this project will introduce students to other ways they can help homeless youth. http://www.teenfeed.org/
~Vineyard Park at Bothell Landing: an assisted living home in Bothell. We will be spending the afternoon with the residents of Vineyard Park playing games such as Bingo, Jeopardy, Family Feud. The goal in working with Vineyard Park is to bridge the generation gap between our elders and our students. It will hopefully foster relationships within the students of UW Bothell and its community.
