Peer Facilitator, Chemistry Department

UW Bothell | Bothell, WA

Would you like to get the chance to help teach chemistry? Do you want an experience to champion on your CV and talk about during interviews? Do you want to help UWB students, strengthen your own understanding of chemistry, and get paid to do it?

We are recruiting UWB students to become Peer Facilitators (PFs) that will lead discussion sections in support of the 2018-2019 General Chemistry classes. These discussion sections are mandatory for all students during all three quarters. It is our goal to have a peer-facilitator to student ratio of no more than 1:10. This means there will always be more than 1 peer facilitator in the section together. This assignment will also include some training during the week before the Autumn 2018 quarter begins.

As a PF, you would be expected to work approximately 8-10 hours per week.

  • Attend BCHEM lectures as needed: 1-4 hrs
  • Run 2-4 discussion sessions: 2-4 hrs
  • Hold Office Hours: 1 hr (arranged to fit your schedule)
  • Have a weekly meeting with me: 1 hr
  • Preparation time: 1 hr
  • Grading of exams: These will be as needed by the instructor.
  • Total: 8-10 hrs

The discussion sessions are all scheduled on Fridays during the quarter. It is important that you have availability during this time. This table shows the tentative sessions and times for the 2018-2019 academic year:
