Official Position Description: Time: 10 to 19.5 Hours a Week (Schedule set each quarter based on class schedules, availability and work responsibilities) Reports to: Training and supervision provided by a Career & Internship Specialist, Career Services Pay: $15.45 per hour GPA: Minimum 2.5 General Overview The Assistant Career Advisor (ACA) serves as a primary contact for students using Career Services by providing career advising to UW Bothell peers and assisting with program planning, marketing, and implementation. To keep up with the growing demand for connecting students to job, internship, and other professional growth opportunities, we rely on these student employees to do the majority of the resume, cover letter, job & internship search, LinkedIn review, and practice interview appointments. Purpose Create a welcoming environment for Career Services in which University of Washington Bothell students and alumni are encouraged to explore and pursue internship and employment options Provide front-line assistance to students, recent alumni within 2 years of graduation, employers, and others regarding Career Services procedures, resources, and services; Make appropriate referrals to related resources available on campus and beyond Help Career Services users navigate the job search process, provide guidance to students to explore and identify job/internship opportunities, build on job search strategies, and connect with potential employers Typical Duties and Responsibilities Greet students & visitors to the Student Success Center and identify ways in which they can be assisted Evaluate client needs, take appropriate action and/or properly direct them to other related resources available on campus and beyond Meet with students one-on-one and in small groups to provide career advising including HuskyJobs registration, resume critiques, mock interviews, and job/internship search by appointment. Make referrals to advisors, counselors, or other campus resources as needed Respond to phone inquiries from employers, students, faculty, and staff Assist in planning, publicizing and implementing Career Services activities and programs Market services to students through classroom presentations, flyers, posters, etc. Recruit students to promote and participate in career activities Recruit alumni, professionals, and businesses to participate in career events Develop and conduct workshops on career related topics Participate in and provide support for all Career Services sponsored events Participate in recruitment, hiring and training of new student employees Maintain electronic appointment calendar, Outlook Contact Database and Catalyst reports Other special projects and duties as assigned, including providing general support for career counseling, career assessments, and event planning Minimum Qualifications Must be a current UW Bothell Student - Undergraduate or Graduate level Strong customer service orientation Professional or personal interest in career/student development Excellent organization skills Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; ability to use tact and diplomacy in working with students, alumni, employers, coworkers, supervisors, and others in a friendly and courteous manner both face-to-face and on the phone A successful candidate will demonstrate initiative with the ability to take ownership of projects and have exceptional follow through Minimum of 10 hours per week required Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite desired Must have and maintain a quarterly GPA of 2.5 Academic year-long commitment preferred (summer-spring quarter).
