Do you have the zeal to work in Microsoft’s BIG DATA space and be part of WDG’s Universal Store Team? Dealing with data collection to transformation to produce meaningful metrics from discrete data sets has been our big engineering challenge and Asimov data platform from DnA team in UST is instrumental to meet this challenge for Microsoft. We are looking for Software Engineers with the skills to help us design & implement data models based on data from millions & millions of clients & users in a trustworthy and connected way. We consume this high volume of processed & aggregated data and produce metrics & reports which are used by engineering, the business, leadership, and partners to deliver faster, improve products and make better product decisions.

In this role our Engineers partner with various engineering, data science and data integration teams across WDG. They identify new and interesting data sources and signals, gather the data from these disparate sources, and then transform data into usable & meaningful form to deliver various types of data assets. Skills in C#/ Java, map-reducer based technologies, data base servers and JavaScript to help tie all of this together are important.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Math, Physics, or other technical field OR 3+ years software development experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • A demonstrable understanding of software development and testing concepts.
  • 2+ years of hands-on software development & testing experience with strong coding skills in C#/ C++/ Java
  • Experience in debugging and maintaining code in C#/ C++/ Java
  • 1+ years of experience with relational database systems such as SQL Server or equivalent technologies
  • Self-driven and able to work independently or with a team to develop solutions for a broad range of problems

Any Of The Following Are Pluses

  • Experience with NoSQL technologies such as MongoDB, bonus if used for analytical purposes
  • Experience with the Apache (or other) big data stack such as Hadoop, HBase, Spark, Storm, Hive, or Mahout
  • Experience in Python/R using packages such as NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, dplyr, ggplot2, etc.
  • Experience with front-end programming (JavaScript), especially for visualization using technologies such as D3JS Experience wrangling and doing analysis on large data
