Discovery Club Literacy Program Assistant (Work-Study)

Imagine Children’s Museum - Everett, Washington 

Imagine Children’s Museum is seeking dynamic high school and college students to provide support during this summer’s Discovery Club Literacy Program.  The individuals who are selected for this program will work directly with early elementary school students, acting as role models and leaders throughout the eight-week long program.   

You must be available every Monday through Thursday from July 5 - August 24, 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., plus one day of training on June 21, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. There are no exceptions. If you will not be available on all of these days, please do not apply.  

Successful applicants will learn important classroom management and team building skills. They will practice teaching lessons and leading activities with small and sometimes large groups. They will also become a part of a strong education team. This is a great opportunity for students who are considering a career working with children. 

Pay is $11.50/hour. 

For consideration in this program, you must:

  • Love working with children in 2nd and 3rd grade
  • Be dependable and responsible
  • Be able to follow directions and act in a leadership role with children
  • Have a professional appearance (no visible tattoos or body/facial piercings and have a natural hair color)
  • Be collaborative and able to take constructive criticism and apply it to work
  • Have the ability to maintain a high level of energy and physical activity for 6–8 hours per day
  • Be able to pass a background check
  • Be able to climb stairs and lift up to 25 pounds

Discovery Club Summer Employment Commitment Form

If selected as an employee for Imagine Children’s Museum’s Discovery Club Literacy Program, I commit to,

Be available as follows:

  • One full day of training on June 21, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Be available from 9:00 a.m. – 3 p.m. on every Monday through Thursday beginning July 5 and ending August 24
  • Arrive at the Museum each day on time and prepared to begin work
  • Act as a role model for students, knowing that my attitudes and behaviors will be observed by young children and should reflect positive attitudes about education and learning, activity participation, cooperation, etc.
  • Help each child feel valued and keep each child engaged
  • Be an active, engaged and enthusiastic member of the team while displaying a willingness to learn alongside of the children
  • Resolve problems and conflicts in a professional manner
  • Maintain confidentiality of the program and participants
  • Refrain from the use of electronic devices (such as phones and iPods) during work hours
  • Refrain from inviting friends or family to visit me at the Museum or on field trips during work hours
  • Keep personal relationships, political views and unrelated issues outside the Museum and refrain from discussing them with students
  • Refrain from smoking, drinking alcoholic beverages and the use of illegal drugs
  • Adhere to Imagine Children’s Museum Dress Code and Code of Conduct at all times

I understand that if selected as a summer employee, breaking this commitment to Imagine Children’s Museum will be grounds for immediate dismissal.
