I Admit; I Have the Best Job Ever

Admissions Advisor, University of Washington Bothell

I started at UW Bothell as a transfer student in the fall of 2007. It didn’t take long for me to become comfortable on campus, joining clubs and various organizations. In addition to this, I was fortunate enough to get a job on campus as the Student Lead of Campus Tours with the Office of Admissions.

To be honest, I landed the best job ever. I was hired to create and implement a campus tour program. Basically, I was paid to learn everything possible about UW Bothell, meet with various departments, and talk to prospective students. My role as a student worker with the office continued to evolve and develop to where I soon found myself accompanying admissions advisors to college fairs and information sessions. This was a win-win situation, as I was able to develop my public speaking skills, and the University benefited from my first-hand knowledge and experience as a student as a means of recruitment.

Towards the end of my senior year, I was asked if I would be interested in applying for a year-long admissions internship after graduation. Without any hesitation, I accepted. In August of last year, I was hired as an Admissions Advisor Intern at the University of Washington Bothell. I was given the responsibility of recruiting potential freshman from all of Southwest Washington and the Spokane area. In addition to this, as an intern, I was given the opportunity to learn all of the details of the admissions process.

As of today, I am a permanent Admissions Advisor with the University, and absolutely love what I do. My experience as a student at UW Bothell not only provided me the foundation I needed as a professional, but it gave me the opportunity to build relationships that will last a lifetime.
