“Shoot for the Stars”
Quality Specialist, The Boeing Company
Community Psychology, University of Washington Bothell 2011
I was accepted to the University of Washington Bothell in the fall of 2008, straight out of high school. I had always wanted to be a Husky, and I could not have been more thrilled to continue my education at the school of my dreams. During my junior year, I became heavily involved with Student Life at UW Bothell. I served as an Orientation Leader for 2 full years, worked as a Student Assistant for Student Life, as well as a Community Assistant for Residential Life. All three of these jobs that I held concurrently with taking classes had an incredibly positive impact on my personal development toward my career. As an Orientation Leader, not only did I serve as a mentor to 60+ students each year, but I worked with a fantastic team of dedicated individuals to put together events for these students, lead tours around campus, facilitate presentations for groups of 200+ students and their families, and had fun while doing it all! I had no idea that the experience that I was gaining was going to help me a great deal in the future.
I graduated from the University of Washington Bothell in the winter of 2011, and I am now working at the Boeing Company as a Quality Specialist. A large portion of my job entails conducting intensive quarterly audits, which requires a strong relationship with the leadership team, management and employees that I work with. My team members and partners must trust my abilities and subject matter expertise in order to work with me in achieving the common goal of demonstrating compliance throughout our business. Not only did my Psychology degree help me with the ability to form and sustain these strong relationships, but my experience in working with students, staff, and faculty at UW Bothell gave me the confidence to approach employees with ease.
I could not have been more grateful to have attended UW Bothell. Utilizing the resources that they made available to me as a student (i.e., Career Center, Student Life, Writing Center, Quantitative Skills Center, Husky Jobs) was a huge help in moving me forward toward my goals. Not only that, but I always felt that I had the support from my colleagues, staff, professors, and friends along the way. I always had someone to turn to if I had a question, or just needed some advice, and that was all thanks to the resources at UW Bothell. I strongly encourage current and future students of UW Bothell to get involved on campus while taking classes; because it will make your college experience that much more worthwhile! Whether it is working as a barista in the Coffee shop, running for ASUWB, working in the library, Career Center, Student Life or anywhere else on campus, you will gain priceless experience that will unknowingly prepare you for the obstacles that you may endure in your future employment.
I wish you all the best of luck within your education and career paths!
