Job Title: Parapro- Behavioral Specialist
I came to UW Bothell in 2010 after taking a break from school. Being a student that is older, I thought that I would be the odd person out. But the reality was that I was surrounded by people just like me who wanted the challenge and high standard of UW but in a campus that felt more like a private college than a large university.
I realized that the diverse and unique population was something that is special only to UW Bothell, the experiences that each peer brought to classroom discussions and approaches to academia made me a better student and citizen. The structure of interdisciplinary approach to education allowed me to shape the education that I wanted. I got to explore subjects in a way that I would not have been able to in a “normal” course of study. I explored one subject, like Civil Rights, from different areas of academia to better understand the how and why gaining a deeper understanding of each subject. It was because of this approach I came out of this program with a greater understanding of the world around me and with skill sets that employers are looking for.
As a graduate from the SEB interdisciplinary studies I have landed a job a love and I will continue to grow in the field of education due to the foundation that UW Bothell gave me.
