Because the MBA Program is open to professionals who have an undergraduate degree in any field, prior courses in business are not required. However, all applicants accepted into the program must complete the following prerequisites.
Additionally, there is a Math Workshop. Newly admitted students are encouraged, but not required, to take a Math Workshop during the summer prior to enrollment. The Math Workshop builds the appropriate quantitative competences (i.e., principles of algebra, calculus, and statistics) to position the student for success in the MBA program. Instructors will assume knowledge of these principles in their classes. Dates for the Math Workshop, B BUS 500 Quantitative Business Methods, are July 18-August 17, MW 5:45 - 7:50pm. Tuition will be available in the spring.
Applicants must take the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) prior to applying to the program. After you select UW Bothell Evening MBA Program just before you begin the exam, your official scores will be sent directly to UW Bothell. Unofficial scores may be recorded online with your MBA application.
The GMAT may be taken at the following regional locations:
For test reservations, you may apply on-line through the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), 1-800-717-GMAT (4628), 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Central Time. Because of the demand for testing, applicants should schedule a test 6 to 8 weeks in advance.
GMAT tutorials may be downloaded through GMAC. In addition, there are a number of GMAT preparation options available online and in book stores. One such option is Princeton Review. As a service to prospective MBA students, the Princeton Review is now offering classes on Tuesdays, September 20 - November 4, 7:00 - 10:00 pm, (room tba in early September) on the University of Washington Bothell campus. Although not affiliated with the University of Washington Bothell, we are pleased to welcome their classic GMAT test preparation support.
Due to the demands of the MBA Program, it is important that all students have a thorough understanding of the English language. Therefore, immigrants to the United States and permanent residents of the United States whose native language is not English and who have not received a bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited U.S. institution must also take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or alternative exam such as the Michigan Language Test (MLT) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
The TOEFL score or alternative MLT or IELTS score is evaluated along with the verbal and written portion of the GMAT to determine whether a candidate is prepared to attend classes conducted in English. The minimum TOEFL score for the UW Bothell MBA Program is 600 on the paper exam or 250 on the computer exam or 100 on the internet exam.
Educational Testing Service (ETS) administers the TOEFL once a month at locations worldwide, and scores are mailed approximately one month after each test date. International applicants must submit a photocopy of the score report in their application packet. Official scores will be sent to the University of Washington when you provide ETS with our school code: 4854. TOEFL scores are valid for two years from the test date.
Alternatives to the TOEFL include:
1) The Michigan Language Test (MLT) with a minimum score of 93. The UW Seattle Office of Educational Assessment offers the exam with results about one to two weeks after the exam.
2) The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is another alternative to the TOEFL has a minimum score requirement of 8.0. Official scores must be sent to the MBA Program, University of Washington Bothell.
If your score is slightly below the minimum required scores in any category, please contact Don Whitney, MBA Manager of Admissions and Student Services, 425-352-5434, whitneyd@uwb.edu , to discuss your options.
