SUBJECT:      Request to Attend the University of Washington Bothell Manufacturing and Operations Focused Emerging Leaders Program

Dear Supervisor,

I would like to attend the University of Washington Bothell Manufacturing and Operations Focused Emerging Leaders Program. Please visit the program's web page to learn more about this executive education program: https://www.uwb.edu/business/executive/manufacturing-emerging-leaders

Participating in this program will sharpen my leadership skills, expand my business, manufacturing and operations knowledge, and the team project will enable me to bring back ideas to solve key business issues and improve our business.

BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS AND CONNECTIONS
The Manufacturing and Operations Focused Emerging Leaders Program is customized for the manufacturing industry and is the only one of its kind. I will be able to build relationships with others in the industry that will provide a network of continuous learning and support.

INSPIRING AND RELEVANT CONTENT TAUGHT BY FACULTY AND EXPERTS
The Manufacturing and Operations Focused Emerging Leaders Program agenda is a powerful blend of inspiration, collaboration and education. Faculty experts from the University of Washington will share the latest research, tools, tips and techniques for effective operational leadership as well as for effective people leadership.

PROGRAM CONTENT
Over a period of 6 months, in several meetings totaling 13.5 days, the program will cover leading people and teams, problem-solving and decision-making and processes, project management, operations, marketing, strategy, planning, finance, conflict management, negotiating skills, motivation and empowerment, power and influence, organizational change, managing people and performance, succession planning, leading inclusive organizations, leadership presence/presenting and business ethics.

Teams will be formed to work together with faculty guidance to analyze and solve a cross-functional organizational issue providing a forum for practical application of skills learned and then make their pitch to leaders within their organizations who are invited to the last day of the program. Between sessions, participants will complete assignments to prepare for class sessions and apply practical skills learned in the workplace.

Participants also take a variety of self-assessments to learn about their own individual leadership styles and preferences. This will support my leadership self-awareness and enable me to create a leadership development plan to continue my development after the program is completed.

COST-EFFECTIVE LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT
Registration is less than many other industry in-depth leadership programs ($9,500 for registration by December 15, 2017). If I act now, I can get a special rate at a nearby hotel.

A GOOD INVESTMENT FOR OUR ORGANIZATION
I am grateful for the investment our organization has made in me thus far. Let me pay it back by becoming a better leader by attending the Manufacturing and Operations Focused Emerging Leaders Program! Not only are you investing in me enabling me to be a more effective leader within the organization, but the team project will likely yield even more significant benefits and returns to the organization if recommendations are implemented.

I hope you will give favorable consideration to this request. Thanks for supporting my leadership development!

Best regards,
