Surinder Singh

Surinder is a retired senior executive with forty years of diversified global experience in the Financial Services industry. His career started in June 1968 with Citibank, followed by Chase Manhattan, Bankers Trust Company and Fidelity Investments. In August 2008, Surinder retired after fifteen years with Fidelity, where he last served as President, Fidelity Business Services in India.

During his career, Surinder has served in diverse business disciplines. At Chase Manhattan, he worked in Hong Kong and Spain as Country Operations Manager for a period of eight years. He also managed Chase’s Credit Card Division and Global Product Management for the International Institutional Banking Division. Additionally, he managed a significant cost reconfiguration project for the International Banking Group, in collaboration with Mckinsey & Co.

Later at Fidelity, he spent fifteen years with a diverse portfolio of assignments. He managed Institutional Customer Services with four domestic service centers employing over 3,000 associates. He managed the Health & Insurance Admin business followed by the establishment of the Fidelity Benefits Consulting business. His most challenging and fulfilling assignment was his final three years, assigned in Bangalore, India. He established and managed Fidelity’s Offshore Business Services Center, serving thirty one diverse business divisions with over 6,000 associates.

Surinder has an avid interest in management education. During his career, time permitting, he has taught at the Asian Institute of Management in Manila, California Polytechnic University and Babson College in Boston. At Chase in Hong Kong, he established a regional Operations Training Center for branches in Asia, Middle East and Africa. He was also a founding member of Fidelity’s Service Delivery University, where he served as Dean of the Operations Management College.

Surinder attended St. Stephen’s College in Delhi and graduated with a Honors degree in English Literature followed by an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad. Retired in Bellevue now, Surinder writes a monthly blog on Retirement experiences.
