My primary role as a teacher is to spark student interest in biological concepts, giving them the background information and skills needed to further explore scientific issues that intrigue them. A basic knowledge of the biological sciences is an essential addition to students’ lives, whether those students become future scientists reading primary literature or members of our society who are asked to vote on vital scientific issues such as stem cell research and genetic testing. By teaching students about biology and the scientific method, I hope to demystify the sciences, teach critical thinking, and educate the future leaders of our society.
