Campus Update

The Freshman Experience

On July 14, UW Bothell welcomed the Class of 2011 as hundreds of freshmen and family members descended on campus for Freshman Orientation -- a fast growing tradition! While the first-year students geared up for the start of class, members of last year's highly-successful inaugural freshman class reflected on an incredible adventure as they prepped for their sophomore year.

"It was an amazing experience and part of me is sad that it is over because you can only do something like this once (be part of a first class)," said Xheni Diko. "It was crazy and stressful but also amazing." Learn More

CUSP Leader Selected

Gray Kochhar-Lindgren has been named the Coordinator of the Center for University Studies and Programs (CUSP), which is the locus of the freshman experience. He successfully guided the CUSP program through its first year as the program's Interim Coordinator.

Wood Returns

We welcome home one of the institution's most popular faculty members and the 2004 Distinguished Teaching Award honoree. History Professor and UW Bothell founding faculty member Alan Wood returns to the IAS program following a year-and-a-half at UW Tacoma as Interim Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

Nursing Northern Cohort a Hit

The UW Bothell Nursing program has drawn astounding interest in its latest endeavor -- a cohort in Skagit County debuting this autumn quarter. Click here for more or visit www.uwb.edu/nursing/ncrnbsn for program details.

New UW Campus Being Planned to the North

Earlier this year the Legislature charged the University of Washington to add a new campus in the Snohomish, Island and Skagit county region. A UW planning committee headed by President Emeritus Lee Huntsman features four UW Bothell representatives including Chancellor Kenyon Chan, and Professors Bill Erdly, Michael Stiber, and Alan Wood.

This panel is looking at potential academic plans for the new campus while consultant NBBJ was selected to aid the state and UW in identifying potential short-term, and long-term sites.

Preliminary recommendations are due in November.

Faculty Spotlight: David Goldstein

The movie screenings and lunch break have ended, and Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences (IAS) Lecturer David S. Goldstein's "Topics in Advanced Cinema Studies: Queer Cinema" class has split up into small-group discussions of up to five students. But where did they all go? As Goldstein strides down a hallway in UW1, he peers into classrooms, and finds them empty. The course runs five hours, on summertime Fridays. Could the students have skipped out? Not a chance. Alumni Spotlight: Nina Bayer

Nina Bayer never expected to receive so much international attention when she launched her short story magazine, Lunch Hour Stories, in January 2006. But since then she has received story submissions from writers as far away as Bulgaria, Greece, India, and even the Republic of Moldova , which she had to locate on a map. 1001 Words: Baaaa-ck to School

In an effort to combat blackberry bushes and other stubborn weeds via environmentally-friendly measures, UW Bothell and Cascadia Community College welcomed over a hundred goats from two firms -- Rent-A-Ruminant and Healing Hooves to campus this summer. "This is a great way for us to reduce our carbon footprint by reducing the amount of equipment we use in these areas," said Tony Guerrero, Director of Facility Services. Learn More about this

Chancellor's Recognition Reception 2007

Commencement 2007

On Sunday June 10th, 745 graduates joined the UW Bothell alumni family -- part of a community network of over 310,000 living Husky grads. Baccalaureate degrees were conferred to 579 students, and 109 Master's degrees were conferred. Fifty-seven students earned their Washington state residency certificates in education.
