Go Dawgs! UW Bothell hosted its 18th Commencement exercises in June 2009, welcoming almost 800 graduating students to its alumni family, now over 8,500 strong. U.S. Representative Jay Inslee served as speaker and the following individuals were honored during the ceremony for their many accomplishments and contributions to the campus:
Dr. Peter Littig, recipient of the 2009 Distinguished Teaching Award. Said Chancellor Chan, "Professor Littig reflects UW Bothell’s core value of transformational education, 'engaging our students in transformational learning experiences that challenge their expectations, broaden their horizons, and stimulate their ambitions'."
Gurpreet Singh, 2009 Student Commencement Speaker. Singh, who graduated with his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, was selected for the honor for his scholarly work and community service, from nominations submitted by his peers, faculty and university staff.
Melissa Cushman, 2009 President's Medalist. Cushman, who graduated Magna Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies with an option in Global Studies, received the honor for her exemplary academic achievements and contributions.
Debbie Brown, 2009 Chancellor's Medalist. Brown, who graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies with an option in Culture, Literature and the Arts, and membership to the Tau Sigma honor society, received the honor for her commitment to learning and for being a consistent source of inspiration for faculty and fellow students.
