Natalie Kay Lang (Liberal Studies '97), Admissions and International Student Advisor, died on December 23, 2007 of unexpected liver problems while on dialysis from kidney failure. Natalie passed peacefully, surrounded by family, friends, coworkers and her beloved international students.
Among the many contributions over her 12 years at UW Bothell, was Natalie's involvement in welcoming and supporting international students through a Thanksgiving dinner and a festive Intercultural Night on campus. In fact, Natalie was awarded the prestigious 2004 Staff Award from the Associated Students of the University of Washington Bothell in recognition and appreciation for her outstanding dedication and commitment to her students.
Devoted to serving students, Natalie actively advised the UW Bothell Intercultural Club for several years and became well known in the local community for her work in organizing the annual Intercultural Night each spring, a popular event that celebrated the diverse cultures on campus. Natalie also helped raise funds for the International Student Scholarship for UW Bothell students, three of which are awarded annually. In honor of Natalie's many contributions, the scholarship has been renamed the Natalie Kay Lang International Student Scholarship.
Natalie graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in Liberal Studies with an option in Comparative U.S. Studies in 1997 and had been working on a Master of Policy Studies degree from UW Bothell. The family credits eldest sister Natalie for her support and encouragement toward higher education. Eight brothers and sisters earned their bachelor's degrees from either UW Bothell or UW Seattle. Natalie's mom earned her undergraduate nursing degree from UW Seattle and, in 2006, she completed the Master of Nursing Degree at UW Bothell.
