Coursework Required for Most Occupational Therapy Programs


Below is common required coursework for applying to occupational therapy programs and the appropriate UW Bothell courses that fulfill the requirement.  Admission requirements are different at all MOT schools and are subject to change without notice, so it is very important for all OT applicants to carefully research the requirements for admission at all prospective occupational therapy programs early enough to address any deficiencies in preparation for admission to the schools of your choice.

  • Anatomy and Physiology (10 credits)
  • Principles of Chemistry (5 credits)
  • Statistics (5 credits)
  • English Composition (5 credits)
  • Introduction to Psychology (5 credits)
  • Abnormal Psychology (5 credits)
  • Developmental Psychology (5 credits)
  • Survey of Sociology or Sociocultural Anthropology (5 credits)

Anatomy and Physiology

  • B BIO 351 Principles of Anatomy and Physiology I (5)
  • B BIO 352 Principles of Anatomy and Physiology II (5)

Principles of Chemistry

UW Bothell does not have a Principles of Chemistry course at this time. However, General Chemistry will fulfill the requirement.
Chem 120 at UW Seattle
This can also be taken at a community college.  Most community colleges in Washington State offer this as Chem 121.  However, do check with the pre-health advisor before you sign up for a chemistry course at another campus.

Statistics, Choose one of the following:

  • STMATH 341 Introduction to Statisical Inference (5)
  • B BUS 215 Introduction to Business Statistics (5)
  • BIS 315 Understanding Statistics (5)

English Composition

  • B CUSP 134 Interdisciplinary Writing (5)

Introduction to Psychology

  • B CUSP 170 Introduction to Psychology (5)

Abnormal Psychology

  • BIS 270 Abnormal Psychology (5)

Developmental Psychology

  • BIS 220 Developmental Psychology (5)

Survey of Sociology or Sociocultural Anthropology

  • UW Bothell does not have courses with these exact course titles although we do have many sociology related courses.  You will have to check with the OT programs to see if they will accept a related course.  Please consult with the pre-health advisor. 
  • Both of these courses are offered at many Washington State community colleges.  Please check with the pre-health advisor for help locating them.
