What is the Writing Skills Assessment (WSA) and when should I take it?

The Writing Skills Assessment (WSA) measures communication and critical thinking skills.  Because the WSA score is part of your application, applicants should plan on taking the Writing Skills Assessment (WSA) test prior to the application deadline.  For more information about this test, including registration information and a practice exam, please see the Business Programs WSA site.

  • Testing is available at UW Bothell and UW Seattle.  Test scores will be expedited to the UW Bothell business program if the test is taken at UW Bothell.

Is there an alternative to the Writing Skills Assessment (WSA)?

Another option to meet the Business writing requirement is by obtaining a score of 500+ on the SAT W (writing).  Please note SAT W scores are only valid for five years from the test date.
