UW Bothell will be administering the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) this spring. The survey will be administered to all 1st year, first-time students and seniors, launching on April 11th via email invitation and closing on June 1st. Nearly 600 institutions participate in this national survey each year, which provides both institutional and peer data on the undergraduate experience. NSSE was last administered on our campus in 2011. General information on the NSSE is available from the Center for Postsecondary Research at Indiana University.
The Office of Institutional Research will post additional information on our web page as it becomes available (beginning Spring 2017), including opportunities to engage in a survey results working group and timelines for the release of results.
If you have questions about NSSE or upcoming institutional surveys, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Why should I complete this survey, how is it different from others?
A: A few reasons. First, UW Bothell has elected to run the survey so that the institution could use the results to improve student engagement. Secondly, prospective students, alumni and others in the community can use this information to understand how UW Bothell is doing. Unlike other surveys that are sent out every quarter or year, this survey is sent out every three years. If you are taking the survey as a freshman this year, you will receive this survey again as a senior. This process helps UW Bothell assess the effectiveness of the improvements it made over the next three years, as a result of your survey responses today.
Q: Will my answers be shared with UW Bothell?
A: Not directly. However, your answers along with your classmates will be aggregated for analysis by the Center for Survey Research at Indiana University. The results will then be sent to the UW Bothell. While your individual responses will be protected, every submitted survey matters.
Q: Who is in charge of the survey?
A: The Center for Survey Research at Indiana University administers and analyzes the survey results.
Q: What type of questions are included in NSSE?
A: Questions about your experience at UW Bothell, how you use your free time, the knowledge you have gained from classes, and your interaction between students and faculty are included.
