Minors

The purpose of the minor is to provide opportunities to students from non-technical disciplines a supplement to their major with a practical set of courses focused on information technology. The minor should prepare a student for a variety of industrial, government and business positions involving computer use.

No student may receive more than one minor from the CSS program.

Business students may not apply CSS 301 (Technical Writing) or CSS 350 (Management Principles for Computing Professionals) to any of the minor requirements.

Minor in Information Technology

The IT minor focuses on bridging the technology and  information management and gives students a background in software design methodologies, computer programming, database systems and strategies for automating industrial and organizational processes.

Required Courses:

Students on the Seattle and Tacoma campus need to follow information for cross-enrollment.


Minor in Computing & Software Systems

The CSS minor provides students with the necessary programming and software management skills to work within a software development environment within their major discipline. Courses for the CSS minor are programming intensive and require a strong foundational knowledge of programming skills to be successful.

Applying to IT and CSS Minors

Admission to the IT or CSS Minors is not competitive. To apply, stop by the CSS Program office (UW1 360) with official transcripts (unofficial transcripts from the UW are accepted). Students must be enrolled in the minor by a CSS Advisor.

Registering for Classes

Students who have been accepted into the IT or CSS minor will be able to request entry codes for UW Bothell CSS courses any time during or after Registration Period 2. Business students may not apply CSS 301 (Technical Writing) or CSS 350 (Management Principles for Computing Professionals) to any of the minor requirements.

Graduating with a Minor

When applying for graduation, the student's major program advisor will list the minor requirements on the graduation application. Upon graduation, the minor will be indicated on the student's transcript, but it will not appear on the diploma. Business students may not apply CSS 301 (Technical Writing) or CSS 350 (Management Principles for Computing Professionals) to any of the minor requirements.
